Naturefarm would like to wish all our friends, colleagues and contacts a very happy Christmas and a restful holiday period.

We hope you get a chance to recharge the batteries and get some quality family time over the next few weeks.

It’s hard to believe the end of another year is upon us.  What a year it has been here in Canterbury. With nature in full force it sees the Naturefarm factory standing strong, and still in full production.

 Luckily our location in Christchurch spared us damage. Unfortunately others were less fortunate.

Waste management and odour control became an issue in the city. This made the use of EM® even more relevant.  EM® was used in the badly hit eastern suburbs of Christchurch to help reduce odour of liquidfaction. This proved very effective.

It has been a busy year for Naturefarm. Dr Ravi Sangakkara from Sri Lanka visited in April, attending various field days in the South Island sharing his experiences of EM®, including how EM® works and case studies from around the globe. Dr Sangakkara is internationally acclaimed for his knowledge of Crop Agronomy and the integration of EM® into farming systems.

In May we bought on board a new staff member to the Naturefarm team. Nicky Maclean joined us as our Office Administrator. Nicky had recently completed the Certificate in Organic Horticulture level 4, at the BHU Organic Training College at Lincoln.  She has a great interest in organics and waste management, and is a great asset to our team.

 Farmer First meetings have been held in Tapanui and Lincoln, for farmers wanted to learn more about EM, and how to implement a management plan incorporating best practice with EM on their farms. The Tapanui group in particular, have conducted their own experiments using EM on their farms, these include: Applying EM to Oats, Barley and Wheat, using EM on swedes, and in livestock systems with beef and sheep. We will publish these results as they come to hand.
